Addressing press persons at the party office on March 17, Monday, Poojari said the Deputy Commissioner who is the MCC administrative officer has already issued a circular increasing the property tax by 15 per cent. But the Mayor as well as the 35 Congress corporators have opposed this and have submitted an appeal to the DC, Poojari informed.

He said it was not proper  to hike the property tax without taking the Corporators into confidence,  that too after the Mayor  election process was complete. Poojari further said the people of Mangalore had elected the Congress to power  believing its promise that the property tax would not be hiked for five years.

“If the order is not withdrawn,  then  all Congress corporator and mayor are ready to resign,” Poojari declared.

He further said the Congress would not cheat the people as done by the BJP which had promised not to hike the property tax, but in fact hiked it after coming to power.

Commenting on the statement of former deputy CM Eshwarappa on him, Poojari said he paid no heed to Eshwarappa’s words as he had no hold over his tongue. “He gives  different statements  like a Yakshagana veshdahari who dons different roles,” Poojari said.

Kodijal Ibrahim, Interim President of District Congress, Kallige Taranath Shetty, Congress spokesperson, Mahabala Marla, Mayor, Kavitha, Deputy Mayor, Harikrishna Bantwal, Shashidhar Hegde and others were present.
