Mangaluru, August 5, 2019: The 35 th week Shramadan of Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan’s 5 th phase was carried out in Marnamikatta area on August 4, Sunday. The shramadan was flagged by Rev Herald Mascarenes, prish priest of Cascia Church. Later Sri J R Lobo, Former MLA dedicated the new Bus shelter erected at Morgans Gate. On this occasion, Swami Ekagmayanandaji, Satish Bhat, Pravin Shetty, Sachin Kamath, Karan G, Shivaram Adoor, Ramakrishna  Kottary and  others were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Rev Mascarenes said, “Any social work would be more effective and successful if we take along many others too with us. We should appreciate the initiative of Ramakrishna Mission in taking along so many volunteers all through for realising one dream of Swacch Mangaluru. If everyone follows cleanliness in his home and surroundings, then only our city becomes clean.”

Dedicating the newly erected bus shelter, former MLA  J R Lobo said, “Its said that working hands are better than lips that talk. Ramakrishna Mission, through its social endeavours has been a role model for this nation. After visiting several cities outside, we understand how clean our Mangaluru city is. We can see public becoming more and more aware day after day. We shall all join hands in making our Mangalore a model city and smart city really.”

Shramadan: Under the guidance of Umanath Kotekar, volunteers cleaned the area between Marnamikatta circle to Morgan’s Gate road. Volunteers cleared wet waste and dry waste consisting of garbage and  dirt from a spot near Railway Overbridge. A worn out and broken garbage bin was removed  and the ground was levelled. On that spot decorative flower pots have been placed. Another team of
volunteers removed overgrown weeds & grass from above the railway bridge and cleared mud and dirt  from the area. Harish Prabhu, Umakanth Suvarna, & other volunteers cleaned the area surrounding new  bus shelter. Mukesh Alva and  others cleared the weeds  overgrown grass using grass cutting machine. Three worn out direction boards were cleaned and repainted.

Erection of Bus Shelter: Under Swacch Mangaluru initiative, a new bus shelter has been erected on Morgans Gate road  A dilapidated old bus stand being used by hundreds of people was removed and in its place a new shelter was erected. New and  attractive seats, sound roof, Good flooring and hoarding containing awareness message has been erected under guidance of Dilraj Alva, President of DK Bus Owners Association. This is the 7 th bus shelter erected under Swacch Mangaluru initiative. MRPL is sponsoring these drives.
