Mangaluru, July 29, 2019: Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) Swacchata Abhiyan’s was carried out in Bandar and State Bank area on July 28, Sunday. Jointly flagged off near Hamilton Circle by Sri D Mahesh Kumar, Managing Director, Smart City Mangalore and  Teacher Smt. Rajeevi Chandrashekar. Captain Ganesh Karnik, Mentor the Abhiyan spoke a few words. On this occasion, Coordinator of Swacch Manas Sri Ranjan Bellarpady, Satyananda Bhat, Surendra Nayak, Kiran Fernandes, Sandip Kodikal, Mahesh K K and a good attendance was seen in spite of rains.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Mahesh Kumar said, “Cleanliness doesn’t mean keeping away filth and garbage. Cleanliness is managing dirt and garbage. We have to keep our surroundings clean to preserve this earth for the future generations. Unless we keep our cities clean, progress and development of the city  is meaningless. In this initiative keeping our city clean, the dedicated endeavours of the volunteers of  this Abhiyan is remarkable. I am highly inspired by this volunteerism. New avenues, methods of   garbage management are being planned under Smart city project. We invite cooperation and support from all the stakeholders.”

Cleaning Shramadan :  Assembled teams were divided into 5 teams. 5 blackspots prone to be littered by public were identified beforehand and they were cleaned today. Heaps of garbage lying by the side of road  leading from Hamilton Circle towards Rosario Church. Overgrown weeds and  grass was cut in the area. Heaps of garbage lying near State Bank were removed by Kamalaksha Pai, Abhishek V S and  others.  Another team of volunteers led by Mehboob khan, Avinash Anchan and others cleaned the areas in Old Bandar Road. Umakanth Suvarna and others cleaned the heaps of dirt in front of Al Badria College and kept flower pots levelling the ground. Heaps of dirt, garbage lying in Bandar area were removed and  the dirt was loaded in tippers by using JCB. Decorative flower pots have been placed Group of   volunteers will be watching over these spots day in and out and prevent the public from littering.  
Maintenance of Bus Shelter: Padil Bus Shelter which was recently erected by the volunteers was  cleaned under the guidance of Punith Poojari. Seats were painted, floor was cleaned and flex hoarding  were put up and surroundings of the shelter was cleaned.   Conclusion of distribution of Dustbins: Volunteers of Ramakrishna Mission distributed about 500  dustbins to small shops and street vendors to promote usage of dustbins and they were urged to ask  their customers to use the dustbins. Awareness campaign was also conducted in many areas. This drive went on for almost 1 month. MRPL is sponsoring these drives.
