Mangaluru, May 06, 2015: Water supply in different parts of the city including Maryhill, Padavinangady, Suratkal, Panambur, Katipalla and other areas which are disrupted since May 5, Tuesday, due to an ongoing repair work, may be restored by Wednesday evening.
Water supply has been affected as the MCC officials have taken up the repair works to plug a leakage in the main water supply pipeline at Pumpwell. This 1000 mm diameter mild steel pipeline which was first laid in 1971 supplies water from Thumbay vented dam to the Bendoor water treatment plant. The leakage arose due to corrosion of the pipeline which passes through a culvert at Pumpwell.
An MCC officer also informed that the repair work was taken up in the wake of the proposal to construct a parallel bridge in the area to ease traffic congestion. The bridge is proposed to come up at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh while a bus terminus would also come up nearby.
