Mangaluru, May 02, 2016: With water level at Thumbay further dipping, the city of Mangaluru will be receiving water only once in three days henceforth. The Corporation was earlier supplying water every alternate day by relying on the water in the AMR dam at Shambhoor. However, with the situation not seeing any improvement even after using the water in the AMR dam, the MCC is now forced to supply water once in three days.
MCC authorities state that going by the current water level at Thumbay, the water may last for only upto six days. Even measures like directing farmers to switch off those pumpsets which use Netravathi water and also to break the bunds erected to store water, it has been of little help.
Mayor Harinath has said that the MCC would use water in wells and borewells if it fails to rain in a week’s time. It has been reliably learnt that the MCC has held talks with private water source owners who have agreed to the request to provide water. The Mayor also said that the DC would exercise his magisterial power to take over such private water sources in case the owners disagree.
