Mangaluru, Sep 30, 2020: Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Akshy Sridhar has said that fine would be imposed from October 2 against those failing to segregate waste before handing it over to the waste collectors. The Commissioner said dry waste collection will be on Friday while on the rest of the days wet waste would be collected.
Speaking to reporters here on September 30, Wednesday, the Commissioner said penalty would be levied as per the Solid Waste Management byelaw of 2019. As per this rule penalty ranging from Rs 1500 to Rs 5000 can be levied on home owners and street side vendors who flout waste segregation rules.
The Commissioner said those discarding wastes in open area can be fined from Rs 1500 upto Rs 25,000 whole those who dispose bio-medical waste along with solid waste will be levied penalty ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000. Anyone found dumping construction wastes in open areas will be fined Rs 25,000, he warned.
The Commissioner said a rebate of 50% will be provided in solid waste cess/service fee for home owners as well as businessmen who process solid wastes. The Commissioner said plastic carry bag sale and use is banned in MCC limits and anyone found using the same or selling the same will be imposed a penalty ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 25,000.
