Vittla, Dec 07, 2017: Thieves who broke into a house located just 100 meters away from the Ukkuda check post, have decamped with gold jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees on December 6, Wednesday night.
The house belonged to Abbas Haji. The thieves gained entry into the house by breaking open the rear door and escaped with gold jewellery weighing 44 sovereigns and worth around Rs 10.5 lakhs which were concealed in a rice bag in the house.
Interestingly, the thieves had not searched for valuables in any cupboard, but had straightaway walked with the hidden jewels giving room for suspicion that this was the handiwork of someone who knew the secret.
Vittla police are investigating the case.
