Bantwal, March 18, 2016 : Vittal Police have achieved a major breakthrough in investigation into theft cases with the arrest of three notorious thieves who are wanted in more than 24 theft cases in different parts of the state and elsewhere including 12 cases from Dakshina Kannada. Police have seized three stolen cars and two motor bikes from the accused.
Those arrested are Kempaiah alias Harish Shetty alias Ravi (45) from Chandkoor in Nada village of Belthangady taluk, Ummer Farooq alias Farooq (30) from Manjeshwar and Satish Bhandary alias Satish (52) of Kallabettu in Moodbidri.
It is said another person named Ashraf alias Chilli Ashraf who is also an accused is absconding and has reportedly fled the nation. It is said Kempaiah is the kingpin of this racket and was wanted in connection with several cases of thefts in jewellery shops in Bengaluru and elsewhere and was also once jailed for eight years for evading appearance before court. Sources say he and another accused Satish Bhandari were associates of underworld don Ravi Poojary.
Bhandari was an accused in a shootout case reported from Kulur six years ago. The arrests were made under the supervision of Circle Inspector K U Belliappa.
