Vishwa Konkani Awards presented to 5 eminent achievers

Mangaluru, Nov 7, 2014 :  Five  eminent   Konkani achievers  were conferred the Vimala Pai Vishwa Konkani Awards 2014 at a  function held at the TV Raman Pai Convention Centre in the city on November 6, Thursday.

 Fr Mark Valder,  former editor of Raknno Konkani weekly was presented the Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Achievement Award. The other recipients are Konkani writer Edwin JF D’Souza (Best Konkani  Sahitya Puraskar for  his book  Kallem Bhangaar),  poet Sanjeev Vernekar ( Best Konkani Kavitha Krithi Puraskar for his anthology of poems Aswasth Surya),  Mandarke Madhav Pai (Basti Vaman Shenoy Seva Puraskar  for his contribution to Konkani language and literature and translation) and   Dr Meena R Chandavarkar, Vice Chancellor of Karnataka State Women’s University, Bijapur ( Basti Vaman Shenoy Seva Puraskar for her contribution to   education). The Awards carried a cash prize of Rs one lakh apart from a memento, shawl and citation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fr Francis Rodrigues, Editor of Raknno, Vimala V Pai, TV Mohandas Pai,Chairman of Manipal Global Education, Venkatesh Baliga, Vasanthi R Pai, Dr. N Balasubrahmanya, noted novelist , Basti Vaman Shenoy, Founder President of Vishwa Konkani Kendra and others were present.

Members of Goshree Kala Sangha of Kochi presented a Konkani ballet named ‘Volaru.’
