Violence-hit Gangolli returns to normalcy; 31 arrests made

Kundapur, Jan 23, 2015 : The town of Gangolli which observed a bundh on January 22, Thursday following sporadic incidents of violence including torching of a shop and a car, is presently returning to normalcy. Meanwhile police have arrested as many as 31 persons in connection with the violence. They have been remanded to judicial custody.

gangolli clash Prohibitory orders under section 144 have been clamped in Gangolli, Trasi and Gujjadi and the situation is said to be peaceful.

The area witnessed stoning incidents in the wake of January 21 night incident wherein the shop and godown of one Venkatesh Bhasker Shenoy and a car were set afire by miscreants.

BJP leaders visit town :  Several  BJP leaders including  Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary and Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP visited the town on January 22, Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the affected areas, MLA Gopal Poojary  urged the police to take strict action against the miscreants. He also directed the Tahsildar to submit a report on the losses suffered in the torching incidents. The MLA further promised formation of a peace committee to ensure peace and harmony in the town.

MP Shobha Karandlaje who also visited the town  viewed the CCTV footages and met the victims of the violence.Later speaking to media she alleged that the violence was pre-planned just to divert public attention from the arrest of some anti-social elements in Bhatkal. She also charged the state government of not taking such violent incidents seriously.

Udupi District BJP President Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde and others were present.
