Kannur, July 12, 2016 : Payyanur near Kannur is in the grips of violence following the murder of a CPI(M) member and a member of BMS affiliated to the BJP on July 11, Monday night. As many as 25 houses and 20 vehicles have been damaged by miscreants following the murders.
The deceased are C V Dhanaraj (38), a CPI(M) member and C K Ramachandran (52), a BMS member. Both the murders took place in a similar fashion.
A group of six assailants who arrived in three bikes barged into the residence of Dhanaraj at around 10.20 pm and attacked him brutally right in front of his family members killing him on the spot.
Within a matter of a few hours, another group first hurled a crude bomb towards the residence of Ramachandran and later entered the house and assaulted him. Ramachandran later breathed his last in the hospital.
Police have stepped up vigil in the town in the aftermath of clashes.
