Mangalore, Jan 8, 2014 : A huge protest rally was taken out on January 7, Tuesday from Gurupur Kaikamba to Kandavara Village Office condemning the proposed Mangalore-Hassan-Mysore-Soloor gas pipeline project of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. The protest was organised by the Action Committee against the Gas Pipeline Project.
Addressing a huge protest held in this regard, Ibrahim, leader of the Action Committee, pointed out that a diesel pipeline has passed through the same area almost 12 years ago and that the affected farmers were given meagre compensation. We were then ignorant about the consequences of the same. But now we will not allow any such project and will continue our protest, he said.
Farmer leader Rajesh Nayak Badagulipadi, Communist leader BM Bhat and others were present.
The protestors also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Tahsildar Premalatha on the occasion.

In my knowledge, pipelines are comparatively harmless. But less compensation is a matter to rebel against! |
