Vegetables, fruits vendors to shift back to Central Market tomorrow?

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 8, 2020: The wholesale fruits and vegetable vendors from Central Market who had unwillingly shifted to the APMC Yard at Baikampady  during the lockdown on April 8, following an order from the Mangaluru City Corporation, are now  planning to shift back to the Central  Market  on June 9, Tuesday.

If the MCC had cited that social distancing was difficult in the old central market building, it had also hinted that the shifting of the traders would facilitate demolition of the building to pave way for the construction of a new market complex.

Central Market

But ever since the vendors shifted to APMC yard, it has been a never ending list of woes for them. The place lacked basic amenities and  to top it all, rains have brought much more miseries to them in the APMC Yard.

Central Market Merchants Association President M Mustafa Kunhi says the MCC should allow the vendors to carry out business at the Central Market itself.

The Association’s legal advisor Manmohan Jois says  the High Court has stayed the shifting of traders and demolition of the  Central Market Building. However, MCC authorities say otherwise and add shifting back to the Central Market will be against the  rule.
