Temples devoted to Goddess Lakshmi such as Kateel Durgaparameshwari, Managaladevi, Bolar Mathangi Temple, and others conducted special poojas today. Special ceremonies were held in all the seven devi temples of Udupi—the Kadiyali Mahishamardhini Temple, Kannarpadi Durgaparameshwari Temple, Katyayini, Durga Temple, Kaup Mahakali Temple, Ambalpadi Temple, and Indrali Panchadurga Temple.

Hindus consider Varamahalakshmi Pooja as an opportunity to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, into their homes. They perform special poojas to please Lakshmi, decorate the altar with gold, silver, money, and jewelry, and request wealth and riches for each member of the family. They believe that the goddess grants all boons on this day.

Hindu women celebrate by decorating the house with flowers and inviting their neighbors to take part in the pooja. They offer clothes, sweets, flowers, and fruits to the goddess, sing hymns in her praise, and pray for the wellbeing of their families.
