The youth named Prashanth (24)  who worked in Dubai had returned hometown just on June 8, Sunday for the last rites of his father. It is learnt his father Sunder Poojary who had left home almost two decades home had never returned with none aware of his whereabouts. When the family recently consulted an astrologer, they were advised to do his last rites.

Accordingly, Prashanth  along with his family  members including mother Vasanthi, and other relatives had been to Uppinangady on Wednesday. If others took a dip at a safe spot, Prashanth insisted that he would take a dip at a spot  where the current was strong  and  paying little heed stepped into the water only to be pulled in by the strong current.

Efforts to rescue him went in vain and his body has not yet been recovered despite efforts by fire  service men, local swimmers and a team of expert divers from Tannirbavi.
