The residence of former union minister and senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojari at Bastipadpu too was flooded and  Poojari’s wife and grandchildren were shifted to safer places by the fire service personnel in the morning.

What led to the floods? : One of the reasons that led to overflowing Netravathi was the release of water from the dams at Shambhur, Sarapady and Belthangady. However, a major danger was averted as the dam authorities had intimated well in advance and had even  given sirens. Bantwal had witnessed floods of this magnitude   nearly one and a half decades ago.

The police and fire service personnel struggled hard to shift people to safer places. The Bantwal SI Shekhar himself was in the lead in helping the people.

Bantwal MLA Ramanatha Rai, SP Abhishek Goel, Additional DC Dayanand, Bantwal Tahsildar  Malleswami and others supervised the rescue operations.
