Mangalore, Feb 25, 2014:   Dr K Radhakrishnan, Secretary.  Department of Space, Government of India and chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who was the chief guest at the  32nd convocation ceremony of  Mangalore University on February 24, Monday, said that  India will be the fourth country to  put a satellite on the orbit of Mars if the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalayan) the nation’s first Mars Orbiter succeeds in its mission.

 Dr Radhakrishnan spoke after awarding doctorate degrees to 112 students in various disciplines apart from 38 gold medals and 65 cash prizes to meritorious students.

He further said the INSAT-3D was the first satellite in the world to provide high spatial resolution imagery and added it has used the Indian Remote Sensing Satellite System Technology.

The successful flight test of cryogenic stage is also another milestone, he informed. Dr Radhakrishnan further urged universities to play a key role in development of technology.

Dr Radhakrishnan also inaugurated the SVP Institute of Kannada Studies, mini auditorium complex, new management block at the University campus.

The function was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. T.C. Shivashankera Murthy. Prof. P.S Yadapadittaya, Registrar, Prof. B Narayana, Registrar (evaluation), deans of various faculties, professors and students were present.
