Mangaluru, June 24, 2019: Centre for Narcotics & Psychotropic Substances, under MAHE will be observing the UN Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking in association with Canara Bank, Rotary Club Manipal-Udupi, The Hindu, Mangalore Today and News Karnataka. Mr. Krishnakant IPS, ASP Karkala will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.

 Dr. G. Shreekumar Menon, HEAD of the Centre said that the major highlight of the program will be the signing of two separate Memorandum of Understanding, with Bombay Hemp Company (BOHECO) from Mumbai for cooperation in the field of medical cannabis and another with Hyderabad based Centre for Human Security Studies (CHSS) for strategic studies relating to drug trafficking and narco-terrorism.  Dr.Vinod Nayak HOD, Department of Forensic Medicine stated that on this occasion a “Ready Reckoner of Narcotics & Psychotropic Substances” would be released by the Vice Chancellor Dr. Vinod Bhat, which would be of immense use to students and public apart from Police and other enforcement agencies.

 A TV serial on narcotics is being released by the ASP Karkala Mr. Krishnakant IPS, produced by News Karnataka to focus on the multi-dimensional threat to public health and security due to illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs. Also slated for release is an online monthly narcotics newsmagazine, called “Pineapple Express”, which is a student’s initiative against substance abuse and illicit trafficking. The program will commence at 2.30 PM on Wednesday June 26th and is open to public.
