Ullal violence: 76 arrested; lodged in Bellary prison

Mangalore, Feb 8, 2014:  Police have arrested as many as 76 persons in connection with the recent violent incidents at Ullal that resulted in a tense situation in the locality forcing the police to clamp prohibitory orders under Section 144.

The arrests were made from Ullalkodi and Mogaveerapattana areas and all the arrested have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

It has also been gathered that all accused have been sent to Bellary jail. On February 7, Friday, the situation in Ullal was such that it resembled an undeclared curfew like situation with shops and business establishments closed and buses proceeding towards Ullal remaining off the roads.There is information about stone pelting on a bus near Thokkottu  in which a child was injured.

Mangalore Police Commissioner R Hithendra has said Section 144 will continue in Ullal. Source said, during search operations police have found a petrol bomb and lethal weapons at a place.

On Friday, even ADGP MN Reddy visited Ullal and asked the public not to pay heed to rumours. Additional police forces from Mysore, Bangalore, Chikmagalur and Hassan besides KSRP platoons have been deployed to monitor the situation. Hassan SP and Dharwad SP Lokesh Kumar too are camping in Ullal to monitor the situation.
