Udupi ’Vitla Pindi’ a gala fete for hundreds of devotees

Udupi, Sep 04, 2018: The now famous Vitla Pindi and Krishna Leelotsava, also known as ‘Mosaru Kudike Habba’ was a hit here with devotees cheering and adding festive culture to the ambience and the celebrations, as a part of Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations.

 

The celebrations began with a procession of various artefacts and cultural tableaux around the Car Street. The other important event was a ritual of breaking the earthen pots filled with milk, curds and saffron water, signifying the childhood mischiefs of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna looked enchanting in his Diamond armour (Vajrakavacha Alankara) which was his special decoration for the day.

The devotees gathered in large numbers around the Car Street to witness the carnival filled with spiritual and religious zest. A long queue was seen at the Sri Krishna temple since early morning on Monday for the ‘Darshan’ of the Lord. Mass feeding was also held on the occasion which took a lot of time.

A clay idol of Lord Krishna was taken in a procession around the Car Street in a chariot after the Mahamangalarthi; before the cultural events in the evening. A group of people with green coloured chest and half dressed in husk dress broke the hanging pots using huge bamboo sticks. Mahamangalarathi was performed to the clay idol by the seers of Ashta Mutts. The pontiffs then threw the Prasadam of broken coconut pieces, fruits and laddus and coins towards the huge crowd of devotees.

After the procession, the clay idol was immersed in the temple lake ‘Madhwa Sarovar’ in front of the temple. The seers and devotees also took a dip in the holy lake on the occasion.

Several folks and fancy dance troupes added colour to the procession. The fancy troupes included the women tiger dance which was unique and the fancy dress to create awareness among masses of the ill effects of drugs.
