Udupi, Dec 15 2017: Nik Gugger of Udupi origin, has got the credit of being the youngest member of the Swiss Parliament and also to be the first Indian to enter the Parliament of Switzerland.

Udupi 15Nik, aged 47 years old, was born in Lombard Mission Hospital in Udupi on May 1, 1970. But, he was abandoned by his mother and was later adopted by a Swiss couple Fritz Gugger and Elizabeth Gugger, who ran a home for orphans in Talassery, Kerala.

Nik, for a long time, was associated with Technical Training Foundation in Nettur, Talassery. The organisation lends its helping hand to the students of technical education pursuing their studies in India and Switzerland.

Gugger later moved to Switzerland with his family to start his own enterprise. Later, he went on to become a Councillor of the Town Parliament. He was elected by the EVP party as a member of Parliament in November. He is also involved in various social activities.

Walking down the memory lane, he recapitulates his days spent in Udupi, visiting the Krishna Mutt and dropping in at his family friend Heidi Shiri’s place. Nik feels that he has imbibed the culture of both India and Switzerland. He hopes to come down to India in the near future to discuss his ideas on start-up programmes to be conducted in collaboration with the Swiss and the Indian governments.
