Udupi, Feb 14, 2017 : The Udupi district bundh called by various organisations in protest against toll collection on February 13, Monday turned out to be a success. Shops and business establishments downed their shutters alongside the NH 66 at Kaup, Uchila, Ermal, Padubidri and Hejamady voluntarily. Most vehicles were off the roads except a few government buses on Mangaluru -Udupi route. Even on the Udupi-Mangaluru-Kundapur route only a few private buses were seen on the road.
Holiday was also declared for schools and colleges due to non-availability of public transport system.
Earlier in the morning protestors staged a rasta roko on the Highway at Padubidri and near Hejamady toll gate. Even roads in Udupi town wore a deserted look due to the bundh.
A meeting between Udupi Deputy Commissioner, NHAI officials and Navayug company is scheduled to be held at Bengaluru and a decision on toll would be taken by February 24. The meeting is also likely to discuss the demand to exempt KA 20 and KA 19 registration vehicles at the Hejamady toll gate.
