Udupi, Apr 20, 2017: Udupi DC Priyanka Mary Francis said on April 19, Wednesday, that Sagar Kavach, a coastal mock security exercise, will be held in Udupi district on April 21 and 22.
Chairing a meeting of officers of various departments at the District Offices Complex, DC Francis said that the mock security exercise was being undertaken to deal with any possible terrorist activity or attack in the district.
The Coastal Security Police, the departments of police, fisheries and others, should work in coordination during the exercise.
The public should immediately call telephone numbers: 1093 (Coastal Security Police) or 100 (police control room) or 1077 or 2574802 (DC office control room), if they found any person behaving suspiciously or any suspicious material during this exercise.
Fishermen should not take on-board their boats unidentified persons; they should inform the Coastal Security Police if they found any boat moving in a suspicious manner. She directed the Fisheries Department to provide more boats to the Coastal Security Police for guarding the coast.
There would be intensive checking of vehicles at all check-posts in the district. Since “terrorists” might use drones, there would be tight police security at tourist spots, temples, educational institutions, malls, bus stands and railway stations during the exercise, DC Francis said.
