Udupi : Youth meets watery grave as concrete slab near pond collapses

Udupi, Sep 26, 2015 : A young man who was sitting on a concrete slab next to a pond near Kurkalu Manipura bridge near Katapady and was enjoying seeing his friends swim, met a tragic end when the concrete slab all of a sudden broke, landing the youth in the water.
The deceased is Vijith Suvarna (30), son of Nagesh Suvarna and Meenakshi, residents of near Manipura Mutt. It is learnt, Vijith did not know swimming and therefore was sitting on the concrete slab.
Though his friends Praveen Kurkalu and Vishwanath who were swimming rushed to his rescue it was in vain. Vijith was later pulled out of the water by expert swimmers. Though he was immediately shifted to the hospital, his life could not be saved.
Vijith who was a member of the local Billawa Sangha’s Chende team was also the President of the youth wing of the Sri Narayana Guru Dharmapalana Sangha of Manipura.
Shirva police have registered a case.
