Kaup, June 02, 2015: Briefing media, Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said that Kaup Gram panchayat has been upgraded to TMC by including Uliyaragoli and Mallaru gram panchayat and that the Cabinet had approved the upgrading of 56 gram panchayats. There are plans to upgrade Shiroor Gram Panchayat to Town Panchayat.
However, the process was stalled following stiff opposition from residents. Notification has been issued for Kaup TMC. Udupi DC will submit a report on the objections received for upgradation to State government. Based on the report, the governor will finalise the process of upgrading Kaup GP.
The minister said for the development of Kaup, tenders will be invited for various works. Urban Development Department will initiate work on UGD at a cost of Rs 32 crore, drinking water at a cost of Rs 51 crore, Rs 15 crore under Nagarothana. With the upgrading of Kaup GP to TMC, development work worth Rs 100 crore will be initiated. A master plan will be prepared for the integrated development of Kaup. There are plans to constitute Kaup Urban Development Authority, he added. At present, Kaup GP is collecting more tax than Saligrama Town Panchayat; residents need not worry on hike in tax.
