Udupi, Dec 24, 2017: The ‘Udupi Parba and Adventure Sports Festival’ organised by the district administration, Tourism Department, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, will be held from December 29 to 31.

Informing the same to media on Dec 23, Saturday, Udupi DC  Priyanka Mary Francis said that a national-level swimming championship will be held on December 30 and 31. As many as 200 people have registered for the junior level, she said.

Stating that the Adventure Sports Festival would be part of the celebrations, she said Udupi Parba would comprise cultural evening, thrilling rides and bike rides, kite festival, food festival, music concert, kayak boat and sand art exhibition.

The adventure sports, culture, coastal cuisine, and a variety of competitions are organised at many places in the district from December 24 to 31. The adventure festival includes cycle race, which covers 125 kilometres would be open for all age categories. The other programme held at the week-long festival includes helicopter rides at the Adiudupi helipad, photography competition at St. Mary’s Island from December 29 to 31, and a dog show at Mahatma Gandhi Bayalu Ranga Mandira, here on December 31.

The events to be held at Malpe beach include wine festival from December 29 to 31, sky lantern “Goodudeepa” competition on December 29, food festival focusing on coastal cuisine from December 29 to 31, sand sculpture camp on December 29, drawing and cartoon camp from December 29 to 31, and fireworks display programme at midnight on December 31. The ‘Goodudeepa’ completion is held in three categories and the traditional, modern and eco-friendly concepts are available for the manufacturers.

The National Junior Open Water Swimming Championship, which would be held at Malpe beach, on December 30 and 31 is organised for the first time in the district. Various other sports and cultural events would be held at different places in Udupi district. The scuba diving fest would be held off Kaup beach from December 24 to 31. A beach fest would be held on Othinene-Paduvari beach from December 28 to 30, while another beach fest would be held on the Kinara beach in Koteshwar. A trekking and camping at concession rate at Hebri, Kollur and Kudremukh from December 24 to 31. The fun games like jet skiing, wind surfing, kayaking and canoeing is organised on the Malpe beach.

Cultural programmes will be held which include music programme by Kalaimani Sivamani at Malpe beach from December 29 to 31. The sculptures sculpted on the occasion would be thrown open for public viewing. The dog show would be holding competitions at various level and 29 pure breeds are expected to take part in the competition.
