Udupi, April 25, 2017 : A thirty year old woman and her five year old son met a watery grave in a stone quarry pit at Perupade in Padu Alevoor on April 25, Tuesday.

The deceased are Neelamma and her son Hanumanthappa. The tragedy struck when Neelamma was washing clothes. It is believed that Neelamma jumped into the water to rescue her kid who had slipped into the water while  playing.

Neelamma hailed from Aihole. She along with her husband Yamunappa and others lived in Udupi where they worked as labourers.

The bodies of the two were retrieved by local swimmers Munna, Nitesh and Ashok.

Manipal Police have registered a case.
