Udupi, Mar 18, 2016:  Speaking at a meeting organised to review the engineering works in the district,  the local legislator  Pramodh Madhwaraj, said that, of the total Rs 473-crore worth of construction works taken up in the 12 government departments concerned, Rs 345-crore worth of works have been completed. Work worth Rs 183.61 crore, which had been taken up under the City Municipal Council, has been completed, while an additional Rs 29.11-crore worth of work is underway.

"Work worth Rs 9.33 crore in the Port Department and Rs 56.89-crore worth work taken up in the Fisheries Department have been completed. As many as Rs six crore-worth works are pending in the Fisheries Department," the legislator listed out, and advised, "The local people should be taken into confidence before initiating the construction works."

’Water situation’ :  The MLA added that there is no scarcity of water in the Baje reservoir. When compared to last year, the water level this year is 46 centimetres higher, he said. The officials were instructed not to create problems and release water in areas like Duglipadav, Kukkikatte, Diana and Hanumanthanagar.

He added that the government would release Rs five crore for the Ambedkar Bhavan and that measures should be taken to construct sophisticated structure with quality works.

The MLA said that construction of the Rs nine-crore worth bridge built at Neelavara would be completed by March 2017. "The drudging works at Malpe will begin this week at the cost of Rs 2.2 crore. Renovation of the Suralu palace has been allocated Rs 1.3 crore. The construction of the Mini Vidhana Soudha will begin on April 15 and Rs 7.5 crore is released for the project. Work for four-laning of the Manipal-Ambagilu road has been allocated Rs 4.40 crore and the funds have been released," he added.

He directed the officers to complete the construction work of the Udupi fish market by April 15.

"The fisherwomen are encountering problems as they have only a temporary fish market at Beedanagudde. The inauguration of the structure is due in the third week of April," he said. Madhwaraj also instructed the officials to complete the concretisation works on the roads by May 15 in the constituency. Measures should be taken to repair the potholes, he said.

Agency appointed

The MLA added that an agency has been appointed for the land acquisition process in the areas covering Malpe, Adi-Udupi, Parkala and Manipal for the four-laning of NH-169 A.

The survey will begin shortly and the land losers should be given justifiable compensation following the new rules, he instructed. The MLA added that a temporary jetty is built at St Mary’s island and Rs 24.85 lakh is released for interlocking at Malpe beach.

The underground drainage works are taken up in the area at a cost of Rs 7.75 lakh. He added that the third phase slipway construction works at Malpe harbour is nearing completion. He also instructed the officials to form local committees for the maintenance of vented dams.
