Udupi : Heated debate at ZP meet over distributing govt aid to Endosulfan victims

Udupi, Feb 26, 2014 : The Udupi Zilla Panchayat Meeting held here on February 25, Tuesday witnessed heated exchanged of words between the  Health officials and members over the issue of  providing government aid to  Endosulfan victims.

 

 

Members argued that all Endosulfan victims are entitled to medical aid and other benefits  and that  it must not be distributed taking into view the ration card and the list furnished by the Cashew Development Corporation.

However, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Ramachandra Bairy said the beneficiaries were selected after conducting health check-up camps. But the ZP members who were not happy with the reply and demanded that the benefits should be extended to those victims who resided in the vicinity of the villages where Endosulfan were sprayed.

 Another member Geetanjali Suvarna demanded that public should  be  kept informed about the proposed cement plant at Padubidri.
Upendra Nayak, Zilla Panchayat President presided over the meeting.
