Udupi, Dec 23, 2015: A couple hailing from Shivamogga who were into the profession of stealing valuables during weddings held in different halls in Hiriadka and other places, have been trapped by the police. Gold and silver ornaments, motor bike, ATM cards and some cash, all valued at nearly Rs 12 lakhs have been seized from them.
The arrested couple are S R Pradeep (38) and Revathi (28). They are residents of Jayanagar in Shivamogga. It has been gathered that the duo would cleverly enter the dressing rooms at wedding halls and steal cash and valuables kept there. Police informed that the two were also adept at stealing ATM cards and misusing them.
It is said that the two had made stealing their profession since the past three to four years. The police could zero in on the duo after some people who had noticed the two loitering suspiciously at a wedding hall at Onthibettu where a theft had taken place recently, had given the sketches of the two to the police.
The police who saw the couple near the Hiriadka bus stand, questioned them on suspicion, when they admitted their guilt.
They have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
They know they will be behind the bars but still knowingly fall into the ditch. Well done Udupi police.
