Udupi, June 09, 2020: Bishop of Udupi Diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo has issued a circular stating that no mass or other religious activities would be held in churches of the district till June 30. However churches are open for devotees who can visit to offer personal prayers, by adhering to all necessary guidelines and precautions, the Bishop has said.
Drawing attention to the fact that Udupi which was once a Green Zone is now on top of the list of Coronavirus affected districts in Karnataka, the Bishop said taking into consideration the present situation, it has been decided not to conduct common worship and other religious activities in the Churches of the district keeping in mind the interest and safety of the people.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the United Christian Forum for Human Rights, Udupi of which the Bishop is the Chairman. The meeting was attended by the heads of Udupi Catholic Diocese, United Basel Mission Churches, Church of South India and Full Gospel Pastors’ Association among others.
The meeting unanimously has decided to review the situation on June 30 and decide on the next move.
