Udupi: September 25, 2015: Indian athlete Ashwini Chidananda Shetty Akkunji who won Gold medals at Common wealth and Asian games 2010, got engaged to a Software Professional, here on Thurdsay at Hotel Sharada International near Karavali, Udupi.
Ashwini is a daughter of Yashoda Shetty Akkunji and B.R. Chidananda Shetty. She hails from an agriculturist family with a sporting legacy.
Ashwini got engaged to Abhijith, who works in Accenture Bengaluru. Abhijith’s father Amarnath Rai is a retired employee of Vijaya Bank and is a former National Kabaddi player and at present president of Mangalore District Kabaddi association. Abhijith too was shot-put player and had represented Karnataka at Nationals.
Ashwini has won Gold Medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 Asian Games in 4x400 m relay team event and an individual gold medal in the 400 metres hurdles on 25 November 2010 at the 2010 Asian Games held at Guangzhou, in China.
She is also a recipient of the Rajyotsava Prashasti in 2010. She has been rewarded financially by both the national and state governments, as well as Indian Railways, in recognition of the gold medals won in 2010
Ashwini currently works as a Manager of Corporation bank and is getting trained to take part in the next Olympics at Rio 2016.
