Addressing to the press UT Khader said that, after several experiments of placing boulders and Sandbags has no impact in the rising waves , the permanent sea erosion under Sustainable Coastal protection and Management Project funded by ADB at an estimated cost of 16 crores will be implemented. Survey will be initiated by ADB experts and then proceed to State experts and as per the guidelines of the central experts compensation will be provided, Khader added.

DC AB Ibrahim said that the work to prevent sea erosion permanently will be commenced and land will be provided to the people as soon as possible and preventive action will be taken through the ADB funded project.

So far nearly 4 houses have been swallowed by the sea and ten houses are in the pose of danger to get swallowed due to Sea erosion. Though boulders are placed to create sea wall on entire stretch, rough waves have washed away several houses and coconut trees.

One of residents says that, nearly 150 meters have been washed away in the last 5 years and the stretch of 3 km in Ullal are exposed to the sea and in a pose of danger to get washed away and a nightmare for the people.

“We have approached to the concern ministers and submitted memorandum to sort out the issue but all the efforts went in vain. Nearly 5 crores have been spent to place boulders which seem to be no use in these rough waves. It is better to find alternative solution by providing land and a compensation to construct a separate houses for the residents, says Ravi Shankar, Panchayath member Someshwara.
