Mangalore, July 4, 2014 : The United Associations of Karnataka Kuwait (UAKK) and Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) have urged Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to prevail upon the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to resume the Kuwait-Mangalore direct flight services.
A delegation of the two organisations met the MP at his office in the city on July 3, Thursday and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard. It drew the attention of the MP towards the fact that over 1.3 lakh NRIs from Mangalore, other parts of coastal Karnataka and northern parts of Kerala have been hit hard due to the cancellation of the direct flight by Air India Express in February this year. People travelling on this sector will now have to travel via Bangalore or Mumbai, which is time consuming, but also inconvenienced senior citizens, they pointed out.
Stating that the Air India Express has not cancelled any flights to Kozhikode and Kochi while cancelling the Mangalore-Kuwait flights, the associations have wondered if Air India Express had succumbed to some lobbying.
Louis Lobo, President of Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA), Elias Sanctis, its Vice President, Hasan Yusuf, Chief Co-ordinator of United Associations of Karnataka Kuwait, Gretta Gomes, David D’Souza, Jessie Pinto and others were in the delegation.
