Udupi, Oct 06, 2021: A 23 year old tourist hailing from Tumakuru drowned while two others were rescued by Life Guards at the Malpe beach on October 5, Tuesday.
The deceased is Akhter. He worked as a mechanic in Tumakuru. Those rescued are Mohammad Pasha and Ibrahim.
The three were part of an eight member group from Tumakuru which had come to Malpe beach on Tuesday afternoon. They were making merry when strong currents washed away three of them. The Life guards who immediately swung into action rescued two of them, while Akhter’s body was traced a little later.
On Tuesday, two youth from Hassan were rescued by lifeguards.
Meanwhile the authorities have decided not to allow anyone to step into the water as it is a new moon day and only those who wish to take a holy dip as per the custom of Mahalaya Amavasya will be allowed.
