Mangalore, Dec 24, 2013: Dharmendra Amin, a well known comedian of the Lakumi theatrical troupe of Mangalore, died of a massive cardiac arrest while performing on stage late night on December 23, Monday.
The Lakumi troupe was presenting its successful play ‘Elya Vishaya Malla Malpodji’ at Ambar near Uppala on Monday night when tragedy struck around midnight.
During the third scene of the play when Amin was enacting along with Sunder Rai Mandara and Ravi Suratkal, he looked very tired and found it difficult to utter his dialogues due to severe chest pain. He informed his fellow artistes about his problem and immediately he was rushed to hospital by the troupe members.
However, Amin died enroute. He is survived by his wife, one year old son and innumerous admirers.
Dharmendra had made his foray into the Tulu theatrical field by joining Sharada Arts Kalavidaru drama troupe of Manjeshwar. Later, he joined the Lakumi troupe which he had served for over a decade. He has also acted in films and tele serials and was in the main comedian role in Lion Kishore D Shetty’s latest play ‘Ekka Saka.”
