Tulu Movie ’Kanchilda Baale’ Released

Mangalore, March 25: The new Tulu movie, ‘Kanchilda Baale, was formally released at a function held in Prabhath Talkies on Friday, March 25.

Amarnath Shetty, former MLA and President of Buntara Sangha, inaugurated the movie releasing programme. The movie was formally released by MP Nalin Kumar.


Speaking on the occasion Amarnath Shetty said that though Tulu has a limited market, it has created its own mark in the regional film history by producing some 39 films.  ’Kanchilda Baale’ is the 40th film and this is a matter of pride for all Tulu speaking people of Mangalore. 


He further stated that the advent of new technologies has opened a large vista for entrepreneurs to venture. Infrastructural facility aplenty, cultural heritage very rich and the number of young aspirants with new dreams are perennial. Under these favourable conditions Tulu Nadu requires better training and organizational facilities locally, he added.


Director and Producer Kumbra Raghunath Rai said that this was the third film from Kalalabhairava Creations. The Board of Censor Certification had granted “U” (universal) certificate for the film, he said. The film dealt with a social theme. The story revolved around the “Bhootaradhane” ritual of Tulunadu in a family following matrilineal system. It portrayed a clash between traditional values and superstition. The film was shot at Vandar Kamblagadde Mane at Barkur, Heritage Village in Manipal, and Kundapur, Udupi and Bidadi, he said.


Muthappa Rai, the founder of Jayakarnataka, has played an important role in this movie. The lead role is being played by Shakunthala Shetty, the ex MLA of Puttur. The movie deals with various traditions related to the son-in-law in Tulunadu and the traditional sport Kambala.


Charithra Hedge from Udupi has acted as ‘Kanchilda Baale’. The speciality of the  movie is that this is the 40th Tulu film as Tulu film industry too has completed 40 years. Shooting spots of the movie are Barkur, Vandaru Mane, Manipal, Badadi, Surala Aramane and in the vicinity of Udupi. P L Ravi is the cameraman. Top Star Renu has given the music. Story and screenplay is provided by Krishnappa Uppoor. Raghunath Rai-Kumbra, producer and director of movie is old student of Puttur St Philomena’s College. Navin D. Padil, famous for his comedy roles; Aravind Bolar; D. N. Bolar; and others are associated with this movie. Charithra Hegde of Udupi has played the role of Kanchilda Baale, he added.

K K Pejavar compered the programme.  Raghunath Rai Kumbra delivered the vote of thanks. K Suresh Ballal, A J Shetty, Nagaraj Shetty, Rakesh Malli, Kumara Swamy, Shivadwaj, MP Nalin Kumar Katil, Shreekanth Shetty, Moideen Bava Former MLA Shakuntala Shetty,  Dr. Richard Castelino, Devanand Shetty, Chandrahas Rai and Chiatra Hegde (Kanchilda Bale) were also present on the dais.
