Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2017: Tulu Sahitya Academy’s Honorary Awards were presented to three outstanding personalities at a function held at Tulu Bhavan on February 18, Saturday.
Muddu Moodubelle, K Anand Shetty and Tamma Lakshmana received the awards for their outstanding contributions to the fields of Tulu literature, theatre and film industry respectively.
The Academy Book Awards were presented to Yogish Rao Chigurupade for his anthology of poems ’Oyil’ and Shashiraj Kavoor for Tulu play ’Barbarike.’
Speaking as a chief guest at the function, Rajya Sabha Member and senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes said more concerted efforts need to be made to strengthen Tulu language and tradition and also to include Tulu in the 8th schedule of the Constitution.
JR Lobo, MLA presided over the function. Ivan D’Souza, MLC and Chief Whip of State Legislative Council, Gafur, Chairman of State Minorities Development Corporation, D M Ravikumar of Kannada and Culture Department were present as chief guests.
In her address M Janaki Brahmavar, President of the Academy said during the past three years the Academy has published 27 books and has brought out 12 Madipu volumes. Efforts are being made to develop the language through Tulu Minadana and Tulu text books, she added.
Chandrahas Rai B, Registrar of the Academy, Mohan Koppala, Raghu Idkidu, Members and others were present.

Lighting lamp is divine for Tulunaadu and tuluaites as well. Wearing foot ware during lighting is. inauspicious. Mrs. Fernnandes only wears foot ware while others have removed. Blossom should adhere customs of the occasion. |
