Truck rams into another in Puttur, five persons injured

Puttur, May 18, 2015: In an accident involving three vehicles five persons were seriously injured at Mukrampady on Maani – Sampaje road and traffic on Sullia-Puttur highway was affected for more than an hour here on Monday May 18.

The accident took place when an Eicher lorry rams into another Eicher lorry and later dashed to a private bus. The people in the cabin of one lorry which was sandwiched between two vehicles are trapped a while and injured.

 

The eye witness told that the driver of the bus moving from Puttur to Pallathur applied sudden brakes at Mukrampady, and an Eicher lorry carrying scrap which was behind the bus just missed hitting it. However, another lorry laden with gravel stones, which was behind the other tempo, hit it and as a result, the first tempo rammed into the bus.

The tempo laden with stones was moving at a high speed and negligence on the part its driver could not control the vehicle. Though the bus was not damaged much, the front portions of both the tempos were smashed.

Five persons in the two tempos got trapped inside, and a backhoe loader had to be used to rescue them. All five were admitted to a private hospital with grievous injuries. Their identities are not yet known.

The three vehicles were cleared with the help of the backhoe loader. Local auto rickshaw drivers helped in the rescue efforts.
