Tremendous opportunities for youngsters in nuclear technology field: Sekar Basu

Mangalore, Jun 2, 2013: India could today emerge as  a  strong nation due  to the solid foundation in science and technology, thanks to the guidance of the great scientists of the nation, said  Sekar Basu, Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai.
 
Participating as a chief guest at the third graduation ceremony of St Aloysius College (autonomous) at Loyala Hall here on June 1, Saturday Sekar Basu stressed the need for sustainable economic growth and industrialization. He also spoke on the role played by the Department of Atomic Energy in ensuring energy, health and environmental security.Taking into cognizance the fact that a considerable population of India was suffering from malnutrition, Basu said  BARC has developed  41 new crop varieties of pulses and oil seeds for commercial cultivation.

He further highlighted the significance of radiation technology and nuclear medicine in healthcare sector.  Tremendous opportunities are also knocking the doors of youngsters  in the field of nuclear technology, he said.

Basu conferred   graduation certificates to 1,452 postgraduate and undergraduate students from science, arts, commerce, management and other streams.
 
Fr Denzil Lobo, Vice-President of MJES and Rector, also spoke on the occasion. Francis Serrao, President, Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society (MJES) and Provincial, Karnataka Jesuit Province, presided over the function.
