Mangaluru, June 06, 2018: An informative programme on skill development was organised for transgenders at the ZP meeting hall on June 6, Wednesday under the aegis of Parivartan Trust. The main objective of the programme was to help transgenders achieve self-reliance in life by taking up self-employment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shivakumar Magada, Chief of the Agricultural Science Centre, said the Centre was ready to offer space for the transgenders to set up self-employment ventures at its premises. He said dairy farming, mushroom cultivation, preparation of bakery products, decorative fish culture etc could be done without any formal education. He also stated that the Centre was ready to offer all possible assistance to those coming forward to set up their units.
But, some of the participants had their own reservations asking how they could arrange funds and other amenities when they were leading a life of difficulty in rented accommodation.
Some other transgenders who participated also aired their woes openly on the occasion as to how they are harassed and segregated in the society.
James D’Souza, Director of RUDSET, Francis, Lead Bank Manager, Sunder Poojary, Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare Department were present among others.
