Mangaluru, May 12, 2018: As many as 14 transgenders voted at the Milagres polling booth on May 12, Saturday. For the first time as many as 100 transgenders in eight assembly constituency limits in the district have secured voting rights.
Though transgenders have been seeking voting rights since long, they never got an opportunity. However, the authorities had taken pains to identify transgenders and giving them their right. A total of 13 transgenders in Moodbidri, 8 in Mangaluru North, 56 in Mangaluru South, 13 in Mangaluru, 6 in Bantwal, 3 in Puttur and 1 in Belthangady have got voting rights this time.
