Tourist taxis worth Rs. 3.5 lakh each distributed among SC/ST youth

Mangalore, May 29: The State Tourism Department and the district administration of DK distributed tourist taxis among unemployed SC/ST youth at the DC’s office on May 28, Saturday under the Special Component Plan (SCP) for SC and the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). The programme was held under the aegis of Janatha Bazaar and State Bank of Mysore.

N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, presented the keys to 21 young men. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bhat said that the state is currently giving top priority to tourism development, adding that the action plan for tourism development within the limits of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) is currently in its final stages. He added that the construction of the international golf course and ropeway is also in progress and that Someshwar Beach will be developed like Kanyakumari.

Speaking on the occasion, K. T. Shailaja, the president of the Zilla Panchayat, advised banks to distribute taxis even among women. Coastal Development Authority Chairman B. Nagaraj Shetty also spoke on the occasion. MLA U. T. Khader was also present.

According to this scheme, the tourism department will supply 50 percent of the total cost of each taxi and the beneficiaries will bear 5 percent of it while 45 percent of it will be obtained as loans from nationalized banks. Each taxi is worth Rs. 3,59,339.
