Top priority to maintaining communal harmony: New SP Dr Sharanappa

Mangalore, Mar 5, 2014: Dakshina Kannada’s new SP Dr Sharanappa Shivanand Dhage has said that he would give top priority to maintaining communal harmony in the district and also to tackle the Naxal menace.

Speaking to reporters after assuming office on March 5, Wednesday he said the election code of conduct has come into force as soon as LS elections are announced. He said maximum efforts would be made to ensure that the elections are held in a free and air manner. He also assured to continue the good works done by his predecessor Shanthanu Sinha.

Stressing the need for cordial police public relationships, the new SP said modern technology would be made best use to crack criminal cases.

To a question on mounting political pressure on police department which even led to transfer of officials, Sharanappa smilingly replied “ It is natural for officials to face political pressure. But we have to pay no heed to it, but do our duty. He assured that he will take his decisions without yielding to pressure.”

The SP said a meeting of police officials would soon be convened to discuss the various pressing issues.
