Toll opposed, immediate repair of Kulur-Surathkal NH stretch demanded

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Nov 03, 2017: Members of the Action Committee Against Toll gheraoed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) office, situated between Mahaveer and Nanthoor circles, on Nov 2, Thursday.   They demanded that the stretch of the National Highway-66 between Kulur and Surathkal be repaired immediately, and closure of the toll gate at Surathkal,

Toll opposed.

The convener of the committee Muneer Katipalla, also the state president of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), said that though the Kulur-Surathkal stretch of NH-66, which passes through Panambur and Bykampady, was badly damaged, NHAI was still levying toll on vehicles at Surathkal. "National highways are like the nation’s lifeline. It is NHAI’s duty to keep them maintained properly. However, the Kulur-Surathkal stretch has been in a pathetic condition, with several accidents being reported here," said Katipalla.

He pointed out that, though people, uniting under the banner of the action committee, had been demanding action on these issues, there had been no response. NHAI not only collects toll at Surathkal, but also at Hejmady. The distance between the two points is less than 10km, but toll is levied at both points. It is a burden on motorists. A representation is submitted  to the NHAI seeking that the tollgate at Surathkal be shut.
