Three bartenders in custody for assault in Moodbidri

Moodbidri, Nov 28, 2018: Moodbidri Police arrested three persons bar staff on the charge of assaulting an athlete who was participating in the five-day 79th All India Athletics Championship being held at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri.

The athlete was allegedly assaulted for not paying his bill. According to the Moodbidri police, Ajay (21) from Bikaner University, who failed to qualify in the initial selection rounds in his category, went to a prominent bar in the town along with a few of his friends. After consuming liquor and food, the group reportedly fled the place without paying the bill of around Rs. 2,600.

The three bartenders, who gave a chase to the group, caught hold of Ajay and assaulted him before recovering the bill amount, the police said. The victim, who is recovering in a hospital, lodged a police complaint, leading to the arrest of Narayana, Praveen and Dayananda. The accused have been sent to judicial custody by the jurisdictional magistrate.
