Mangaluru, Oct 1, 2017: Thousands of children were initiated into the world of letters on the Vijayadasami day on Saturday in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Temples, especially those dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, witnessed a heavy rush on the day.
Elaborate arrangements were made at various temples. Over 200 kids performed ’Vidyarambha’ rituals on Saturday at Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple. A report said thousands of children, majority of them from Kerala, were initiated into the world of letters at the famous Kollur Mookambika temple.
A large number of children, accompanied by their parents, turned up at Mangaladevi Temple in Mangaluru to perform the ’Aksharabhyasa or Vidyarambha’ ritual of writing their initial letters, invoking blessings of Saraswati, Goddess of Learning and Art.
On this auspicious day children were made to write Om on rice, there is a belief that children who are initiated into learning on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami would perform well in education and progress in life.
