Mangalore, Feb 3, 2014: The funeral of Sunni religious scholar and Ullal Qazi Tajul Ulema Sayyed Abdul Rahman Al Bukhari who passed away here on February 1, Saturday, was held at the Ettikulam Masjid ground near Payyanur on February 2, Sunday in the presence of thousands of mourners who had arrived from far and near.
The funeral prayers were led by Assayyed Fazal Hamid Koyamma Thangal Koorath, the son of the deceased Qazi and the in-charge Qazi of Ullal. The mortal remains were buried next to the grave of the Thangal’s mother.
The huge crowd that had gathered at the place also led to traffic snarls in the area. Though there was a proposal to bring the body to Ullal to facilitate people to pay last respects, as requested by Karnataka Health Minister UT Khader, the same could not be materialised as it would delay the funeral.
Earlier, the mortal remains were placed at the residence of the deceased Khazi’s second son. Prominent among those who paid their last respects to the departed Qazi included KC Venugopal, Union Minister, UT Khader, Karnataka Minister for Health, Ulema leaders MA Abdul Khader Musliyar, AP Mohammad Musliyar, Haji Ibrahim Kodijal, Muslim Central Committee President, BA Moidin Bava, MLA of Mangalore North and Bekal Ibrahim Musliyar, Qazi of Udupi.
