Mangalore, Mar 25, 2014 : “ Any person who shows disrespect to women and commits atrocities on them has no place in the Congress. I tender an apology over the induction of a person accused in pub attack case during the Congress convention,” said DK Congress candidate B Janardhana Poojary.
The Congress which had inducted Shetty during Monday’s convention had within hours gone back on its move and expelled him.
Addressing press persons at the party’s Election Campaign Office on March 25, Tuesday, Poojari said “We had no intentions of inducting any such person to the party. It was a mistake that has taken place without our knowledge.”
“Congress has always treated women with high respect and there is no reason to doubt the intentions of the Congress considering yesterday’s incident,” Poojary said.
Referring to the PCPIR Project, Poojari said such a project which would benefit youth and offer them employment opportunities is the need of the hour. At the same time he made it clear that there was no intention of using farm land for the project and that it would neither give scope for hazardous industries.
UT Khader, state Minister, Congress leader Harikrishna Bantwal, Kallige Taranath Shetty, Ivan D’Souza, Shashidhar Hegde and others were present.
