Thieves target 3 houses near Kinnigoli; rob gold, cash

Mangaluru, Feb 22, 2015 : At least three houses in Hosakadu area near Kinnigoli were robbed in a serial theft case reported late night on February 20, Friday. Gold weighing17.5 sovereigns and a cash of Rs 10,000 have been reported stolen.

 

In the first case, the thieves entered the  house of Vishwanath Shettigar through the front door after removing the latch through the open window. It has been gathered that they had used soap oil  to open the latch easily as was evident from the oil smears and the oil tin that was found discarded outside the house. The thieves had stolen gold kept in the cupboard even when four members  of the family were fast asleep.

Even the house of Ahmed in the neighbourhood was targeted. In this case the modus operandi was the same but the thieves who tried to enter the back door in a similar fashion  as in case of the first house failed in their attempt and later left after locking the door from outside.

In  the  third  incident, they entered the house of Harish Suvarna through the backdoor and escaped with a cash of Rs 10,000 from the room where Suvarna was sleeping. It is learnt, the thieves later entered the room were the daughter and mother-in-law of Suvarna were sleeping but did not succeed in opening the cupboard as the daughter who saw the thieves  coughed deliberately.

No sooner the thieves fled, the girl informed other members of the family and soon the local panchayat member was intimated. Later the police were informed.

Mulki police who rushed to the spot, summoned a dog squad. Marks of bike wheels were also found in the vicinity giving room for suspicion that the thieves might have come in a bike.

Further investigations are underway.
